Challenge
Indoor digital signage has long been dominated by LCD and LED-based solutions – often power-hungry, visually intrusive, and unsuitable for certain environments. Many of these devices cause excessive energy bills, come with recurring subscription fees, and have a short operational lifespan due to maintenance demands. Even static printed signs, while inexpensive, are difficult to update in dynamic settings and lack the flexibility to integrate with modern scheduling and workflow systems.
Furthermore, most available devices fail to complement interior design concepts. Harsh, light-emitting displays are not always welcome – particularly in UNESCO heritage sites, galleries, or elegant institutions – where aesthetics and atmosphere matter as much as functionality. In addition, many existing systems lack the flexibility to integrate with external data sources or specialized workflows.
TintTech has overcome these challenges by creating a digital signage solution that is:
- Visually timeless and adaptable to both modern and rustic interiors.
- Extremely low-power and low-maintenance with high reliability and minimal total cost of ownership.
- Non-intrusive for sensitive or design-conscious environments.
- Technically flexible to integrate with a wide range of content sources and scheduling systems.
Solution
As a result, Artec Design developed a line of low-power E Ink display devices with a content management system (CMS) for TintTech, designed to blend into diverse indoor environments while offering a reliable and low-maintenance solution.
The key highlights of the ePaper signage solution include:
- Non-Emitting E Ink Display Technology – 7.8-inch, 9.7-inch, 13.3-inch, and 32-inch E Ink screens that display content without emitting light, suitable for settings where LEDs or LCDs are inappropriate or where energy efficiency and sustainability are of essence.
- Timeless Aesthetics – Minimalistic, pleasant-to-look-at displays that harmonize with both modern and historic interiors, ensuring they never feel out of place. The design features thin bezels that are symmetrical on all sides and an edge-to-edge glass front cover with anti-glare coating.
- High Reliability & Low Total Cost of Ownership – Wired PoE (Power over Ethernet) for both data and power transmission via a single cable is designed to operate for up to 10 years without maintenance. Furthermore, there are no subscription fees nor recurrent costs.
- On-Site CMS with Web UI – A Web user interface to manage all ePaper displays, including content updates, device configurations, over-the-air updates, and dashboards.
- Powerful Integration Capabilities – A CMS API supporting content uploads as PNG images or webpages (e.g., WordPress), enabling integrations with meeting room solutions (e.g., GoBright, Door Tablet, AskUMA, Office365, Outlook), booking platforms, or custom workflows.
- User Interaction via NFC/RFID & Touch Buttons – Engage with end-users via capacitive touch buttons, NFC/RFID reader and timeout events.
- Optional RGB Smart Hue Light – Status indicator for meeting rooms and hot desk solutions, e.g., green for available, orange for soon-to-be-occupied, and red for occupied.

Use Cases
TintTech‘s wired ePaper displays support a growing range of indoor applications and use cases, e.g.:
- Offices & Co-Working Spaces – Display room schedules, current meeting details, company information, KPIs, weekly HR updates, or team performance leaderboards. Integrate with calendar systems, hot desk booking tools, or custom databases for real-time updates.
- Universities, Colleges & Classrooms – Lecture and seminar room timetables, campus announcements, and faculty information boards.
- Hospitals – Show patient information, entrance guidance, department wayfinding, appointment schedules, and doctor availability.
- Museums & Galleries – Create multilingual exhibitions without disruptive light emissions. Show exhibit information, educational content, and illustrations in several languages and enable visitors to change between them using NFC/RFID and touch buttons.
- Factories, Laboratories & Production – Real-time project tracking, lab test queues, manufacturing process updates, and Kanban boards for collaborative teams.
- Large Indoor Buildings – Digital signage, wayfinding, dynamic maps, floor plans, and location directories for large facilities. Includes navigation and corporate campus floor directories.
