Our Story
In the late 1990s, ZF Micro Systems, a Silicon Valley company known for its fault-tolerant and embedded computing solutions, needed additional electronics engineering expertise for their x86 modules. Recognizing this as a unique opportunity, a group of talented Estonian hardware engineers working in the United States founded Artec Design in 1998, initially providing custom PCB design services as a nearshore outsourcing partner to ZF Micro Systems. As Artec Design proved its capabilities, our services expanded from hardware design to embedded software (BIOS and Linux) and ASIC design.
Starting with our first client in Silicon Valley, our reputation for excellence led to a growing client base across North America, Europe, and Asia. This expansion brought additional technical expertise, and today, we offer a full spectrum of in-house capabilities for complete product development and manufacturing of electronic systems — from idea to final product – tailored to meet the diverse needs of our global clients.
Artec Design has been trusted by more than 150 clients across more than 15 countries, and our products have reached over a quarter of the world’s nations – we export over 90% of our services and products to North America, Europe, and Asia, either directly or through our clients.
We remain a privately owned and manager-controlled multidisciplinary product development company, allowing us to stay agile and always prioritize your best interests.

Our products often feature wired or wireless connectivity with cybersecurity measures, making IoT a natural extension of our work – a domain we have mastered long before the term “Internet of Things” became popular.
Our R&D Grants
We prioritize a scientific approach in our R&D projects, engaging industry’s top engineers to drive deep tech innovation and to bring breakthrough technologies to life.
To demonstrate our dedication to R&D excellence, we partnered with Tallinn University of Technology to establish the Competence and Technology Consortium Eliko. Our involvement in cutting-edge projects further underscores this commitment, including participation in Horizon 2020 initiatives like WELMO (Grant 825572), DynICP (Grant 286610), BRAINSAFE II (Grant 315549) and ENABLE (Grant 045563), collaborative projects with Eliko such as the IoT-driven industrial R&D program (EU48693), and European Regional Development Fund projects like the ePaper display solution with IoT connectivity (EU60327).
